English version
Act I: The Geography of Purity and Gunpowder (The Body that Refused to Bow)
Morocco was never merely a spot on a map; it was an impenetrable fortress walled by the Atlas and Rif mountains, and a people possessed of an innate awareness that human dignity is inseparable from the purity of their land. The moment the central elite (the Makhzen) sank into the mire of indebtedness and subjugation, selling national sovereignty under the 1912 Protectorate Treaty, the deep geography revolted. The "Mokahatoun" (the dispossessed) and the impoverished rose with their traditional rifles, crafting epics that are still taught today in the world’s elite military academies:- The Lion of the Atlas (Moha ou Hammou Zayani): At the Battle of El Herri (1914), he taught the French occupier an unforgettable lesson. He rejected the glitter of money and the allure of treason that entrapped the likes of "Glaoui." He chose the rugged rock of the mountain, shattering the ranks of the modern French regular army with his innate tribal genius, and died with his shroud scented of gunpowder, stained with the pride of the Atlas.
- The Fox of the Mountains, Beyond Domesticated Trajectories (The Sharif Ahmed al-Raisuni): In the Habt and Northern mountains, he formed an extraordinary phenomenon that bewildered global powers (Britain, America, and Spain). Balancing political maneuvering with the piracy of colonial diplomacy, Raisuni was a defiant figure who refused to yield. For years, he rendered the mountains of Fahs and the North a forbidden zone for foreign infiltration, manipulating consuls and nations like chess pieces.
- The Transcontinental Legend (Muhammad bin Abdul Karim El-Khattabi): The mastermind of modern guerrilla warfare who inspired liberation movements from Vietnam to Cuba. At Anwal (1921), he did not merely defeat Spain militarily; he dismantled the thesis of "European supremacy" and established the Republic of the Rif as a model of institutional modernity, before the forces of colonial infidelity (France and Spain), aligned with the internal line of treason, conspired to annihilate his people with toxic gases (mustard gas).
- The Tempest of the North (Ahmed Akhrif and his brother Abdeslam Akhrif): Leaders of the resistance and liberation in the Ghomara mountains and the North, who followed in the footsteps of El-Khattabi. They turned the battles of "Wadi al-Saniya" into a hell that swallowed Spanish battalions, rejecting all compromises of surrender, declaring that freedom cannot be fragmented or purchased in the international market of betrayal.
- The Forgotten Martyr (The Sharif Muhammad Amziyan): The pioneer of the Riffian resistance in the twentieth century, who led the battles of the "Mountain Wolves" (such as the Battle of Sidi Moussa and the River of Wolves) against early Spanish infiltration in the towering strongholds of Qala'ia. He fell as a martyr in the battlefield (1912), facing the enemy, never turning his back, leaving behind a school of sacrifice passed down through generations.
Act II: A Stab in the Back… The Engineering of the "Hybrid Generation"
While these giants were watering the earth with their blood—from the battles of "Bougafer," Asaq, and Lwziyin to the peaks of the Rif—the conspiracy was being cooked in closed rooms. Military colonialism exited physically, but left behind its spirit and structural nails through the "Aix-les-Bains agreements." It handed the keys of the homeland, the phosphate mines, the minerals of the Atlas, and the vast plains to the "New Glaouis"; a hybrid elite nurtured by the colonial administration.
A systematic vengeance was unleashed upon the strongholds of resistance:
- The real Liberation Army was marginalized, its symbols liquidated, and El-Khattabi was exiled to die in estrangement.
- The mountains of the Atlas, the Rif, and the South were transformed into an "unprofitable Morocco," punished with marginalization, poverty, and the neglect of infrastructure.
- A systematic apparatus of ignorance was engineered; education was hollowed out of its critical content, and festivals and superficiality were directed to anesthetize minds, producing a "hybrid," consumerist generation—broken-winged, incapable of movement or thinking of change.
Act III: Masked Dictatorship and the Distortion of Religion
In this foul swamp, "the opium of the people" was utilized in a reverse manner. Towering minarets of grand mosques arose, adorned with luxurious marble and crystal chandeliers, serving as facades to grant "spiritual legitimacy" and political prestige to the ruling elite. Religious discourse became a megaphone calling for passive patience, framing "Hokra" (systemic humiliation) as fate and destiny to be endured.
In stark contrast to these luxurious minarets, the ugliness stands exposed:- A total absence of free hospitals, shelters for the needy, and charities that preserve human dignity.
- Children and women of the Atlas are left to die of cold beneath the snow and from the lack of antidotes for scorpion venoms, while a mosque is built for millions of Dirhams to immortalize the name of a "grand benefactor."
- Charity was transformed into a seasonal mechanism of humiliation (the Ramadan basket) to break the pride of the poor and ensure their electoral loyalty.
Act IV: The Transcontinental Tragedy (Fleeing the Fortress)
Here, the human tragedy reaches its zenith; the wheel has turned to produce the harshest historical irony.
The simple, marginalized, and dispossessed Moroccan citizen in the Rif, the Atlas, and the South finds himself besieged by a cursed trinity: the guillotine of debts and the dictates of the World Bank that inflate prices and destroy public services, the internal corruption of the monopolistic oligarchy, and the betrayal of normalization with the Zionists, who were given free rein to plunder agriculture and penetrate society systematically under the guise of investment.
The descendants no longer think of confrontation; the sources of awareness within them have been dried up. The dream has shifted from "defending the land" to "fleeing it." The youth, whose grandfathers fought French and Spanish aviation with bare chests, throw themselves today into the boats of death, or scale the barbed-wire fences of Ceuta and Melilla, begging for asylum or a morsel of bread in the embrace of the old occupier (France and Spain).
It is the tragedy of a people whose underground wealth of gold, phosphate, and minerals was plundered, and who were deprived of their right to self-determination. The curtain falls on a swamp where the poor groan at the bottom, while on the surface, superficial "Tifinagh" signs are erected to distract people with marginal visual identities, as the homeland bleeds its youth into the Mediterranean. It is the cry of pain from the lands of Anwal and El Herri, which have been transformed from fortresses of lions into exiles expelling their own children into the unknown.
